GOLIAT armchair
Unique chair from 1953 by Poul M. Volther
In the GOLIAT chair you get the sculptural weight that characterizes the Danish designer Poul M. Volther. He designed the chair for the Copenhagen Furniture Carpentry Exhibition in 1953, where the chair won a prize. The chair was then produced by master joiner Erhard Rasmussen, and it was never put into series production. It is therefore at MAKE nordic that the GOLIAT chair sees the light of day for the first time in 2017. The chair is today handmade by skilled cabinetmakers at one of Denmark's leading furniture factories.
The forgotten chair was found
When Poul M. Volther had won the prize at the Carpenters' Autumn Exhibition, the chair was sent to Sweden, where it was forgotten for many years. By chance, the architect's son rediscovered the chair, many years after Poul M. Volther's death. Jakob Volther received a newsletter from an auction house in Sweden where his father's beautiful chair was for sale. One of the few examples that had been produced in the 1950s. Jakob Volther immediately saw the potential in the iconic armchair, which today is an important part of the furniture collection at MAKE nordic. After just a few years, the GOLIAT armchair has found a place in many homes - and in many hearts.
As the name illustrates, Volther has seen GOLIAT as a mighty and brave fighter that fully lives up to the other old Danish classics from the 1950s.
Architect-designed chair in timeless design
Poul M. Volther's GOLIAT chair has a beautiful, minimalist look and you get a surprisingly high sitting comfort. The chair can stand alone with its stylish lines, but it can also be very easily combined with other furniture to create a varied and personal expression in your home. There is no doubt that the GOLIAT chair will make a positive contribution to any room with its unique and beautiful design language. The architect-designed chair is handmade in natural or black-painted oak from FSC®-certified forests (FSC® N002763). You therefore get a quality that can last a lifetime - and perhaps be passed down for generations.

MAKE a difference
"We strive to create furniture of high design quality, with great consideration for the environment, and with the smallest possible footprint on our shared earth. For if there's something that stays with us for a long time in this life, it's our furniture. When we produce the furniture in good quality and take good care of it, it can last for many years and perhaps be passed down through generations. In this way, we might be able to make a small difference and minimize the buy-and-throw-away mentality"
- Line Olesen, Founder
